چکیده

Debris flow runout poses a hazard to life and infrastructure. The expansion of human population into mountainous areas onto alluvial fans increases the need predict mitigate debris hazards. flows on unconfined can exhibit spontaneous self-channelization through levee formation that reduces lateral spreading extends distances compared unchannelized flows. Here we modify D-Claw shallow model in two ways are hypothesized generate levees. We evaluate these modifications with observations from large-scale flume experiment. investigate performance when including effect different friction sub-models, as well inclusion segregation effects granular permeability. Results show that, for wide range plausible input parameters, simulations promoted modeled formation, whereas without did not create Further, using forward predictive framework, were more likely better magnitude depth distance, simulation timing was affected by choice sub-model. Our results indicate permeability improve likelihood predictions prior an event occurring.

A Two-phase Shallow Debris Flow Model with Energy Balance

This paper proposes a thin layer depth-averaged two-phase model provided by a dissipative energy balance to describe avalanches of solid-fluid mixtures. This model is derived from a 3D two-phase model based on the equations proposed by Jackson [R. Jackson, The Dynamics of Fluidized Particles, 2000] which takes into account the force of buoyancy and the forces of interaction between the solid an...

kinetic energy model of two-phase debris flow

a numerical model for two-phase debris flows is developed in this paper, on the basis of understanding of the physical characteristics of debris flows from field investigations and experiments. employing a moving coordinate, the kinetic energy equation of gravel particles in unit volume in debris flow is developed by considering the potential energy of the particles, energy from the liquid phas...

Stochastic uncertainty analysis for unconfined flow systems

[1] A new stochastic approach proposed by Zhang and Lu (2004), called the Karhunen-Loeve decomposition-based moment equation (KLME), has been extended to solving nonlinear, unconfined flow problems in randomly heterogeneous aquifers. This approach is on the basis of an innovative combination of Karhunen-Loeve decomposition, polynomial expansion, and perturbation methods. The random logtransform...
